Bio

Luke Warren is a multi-disciplinary artist living and working in Tennessee. He earned his BS in Film, Television and Digital Media from Texas Christian University in 2017, and an MFA in Sculpture from Cranbrook Academy of Art in 2020. Warren questions and critiques concepts surrounding “traditional” understandings of masculinity through his sculptural works. He draws heavily upon film, music, and performance weaving these art forms into his practice.

Warren’s artistic identity is what he describes as a contextician—a term he coined to characterize himself as a technician of context. He believes that the conceptual meaning of his work cannot be fully understood without engaging with the contextual frameworks in which it exists. These frameworks include the physical qualities and spatial relationships of the work, as well as the research, theory, and historical lenses that inform its creation. For Warren, context is not supplemental but essential; it is through this interplay that his work generates dialogue and meaning.

He is the Assistant Professor of Sculpture at Austin Peay State University.
